00:00:00 - [CHDE] Hey. Good morning, man. How are you? 00:00:09 - [CHDE] Nice, man. Hey. Quick question for you. So I I guess you and I talked on I think it was Thursday when I stopped by your office, Wednesday or Thursday. I am I'm not sure Chad's gonna work out. 00:00:24 - [SCOTT_WARNER] K. So I don't disagree with kinda your assessment based on things I've heard. So 00:00:31 - [CHDE] Well, here's here's the bottom line for me. I just figured up, you know, me, Tim, Alex, like, we put in six hundred and fifty hours over the last couple weeks with our group, and he never showed up before eight and left promptly at about 0359, never managed to find even a half hour on the weekend to come in. And it's like and and he took a a healthy one hour, if not longer, lunch break. And, like, part of me is like, look, man, if you're okay with and knowing that the rest of your team who also has a lot of other things to do is busting their ass and putting in fourteen, fifteen hour days, and you're working basically seven hours, I mean, I just can't get on board with that. That that really bothers me. And as I thought about over the weekend, I'm like, this this is just not us. This is not our team. 00:01:19 - [SCOTT_WARNER] I mean, what's his where did he come from? 00:01:22 - [CHDE] He comes from case IH down the road. 00:01:26 - [SCOTT_WARNER] It's just weird to me that he would have that 00:01:28 - [CHDE] Well, and and I think it checks all the boxes. Right? He was in the navy. He's been in this business. He was even a contractor installing racking all around the country for a period of time. You know, he's got the beard. I mean, you know, he you would think he would be a hard worker. And he and he moves slow. He moves super slow. Like, there's just no sense of urgency. And so Friday, I I was really frustrated, and he was getting ready to check out at 0355. And I said, Chad, I was like, what are you thinking your normal schedule is gonna be? And he said, well, know, probably probably eight to four. And I said, and you think that's enough? You think that's enough really? He said, yeah. That that should be enough. And I just said, okay. Interesting. I said, okay. You know, we're looking at 250 orders in the back in the backlog. You know, Tim works all weekend and, you know, ships out 50 orders by himself. I'm just I don't know, man. I I don't wanna let this fester. And so I'm thinking I may have to may have to terminate this guy, like, even this week possibly. 00:02:31 - [SCOTT_WARNER] Yeah. I my rule is once you know, you know. Right? And I think we did have that conversation, and it sounds like it didn't get better, and it sounds like you even addressed it. So to me, bam, bam, bam. 00:02:43 - [CHDE] Well, and it's like, okay. Just the lack of self awareness. You know, in some of the more subtle things, like, invited him to eat lunch with us every day. You know, we're just sitting down having a ham sandwich at at the white table back there for five minutes, and, like, never once did he join us for lunch, and he would leave, you know, leave for an hour at least. And it's like, I just I don't want that to be the culture. That's not Nathan. That's not Chris Burge. That's not Steve Wade. That's just not who we are. 00:03:07 - [SCOTT_WARNER] No. And trust me. That'll that'll start festering out there, which isn't your problem necessarily. But 00:03:12 - [CHDE] Well, it is my problem because I want us to be well thought of and a good partner back there. And I just I'm not don't I expect somebody to work twelve hour days, but it's like, dude, if you can't at least put in eight hours, I sorry. You're you're well paid. You know? You're making almost 80,000. Like, that seven hour a day, no thanks. So I guess I I've not had to terminate a lot of people. I was gonna ask you if I were to do that, is there anything I need to keep in mind? I mean, I know it's he's only been on board for, like, three weeks. 00:03:43 - [SCOTT_WARNER] I would say, generally, you'd want write ups and things like that. But because because he's not been here ninety days yet, you're still well inside the evaluation period. And so what you would generally do is wanna have a conversation with Lisa and Yep. Walk her through it. Now he's a joint employee for us, I think. So I think Yep. Probably have that conversation together and see kinda what she'd like to see from us. I don't know her as well. Like, I know with Ryan, I could have just said, let's go. Lisa may have other desires, but I would say we can I can try to set something up for the three of us even today if you have time? 00:04:26 - [CHDE] Okay. Well, I'd like to at least make a game plan because, you know, as I thought about it over the weekend, I talked to Gracie, I talked to Danny driving home Friday, and and just kinda like talk talking through it. I'm like, yeah. There's just no way. I I keep telling myself this story like, oh, it'll get better. It's not gonna get better. If you if you aren't gonna you're gonna show your best when, you know, your boss and your boss's boss are in town for two weeks. You know, what's it gonna be like when I'm not there? 00:04:50 - [SCOTT_WARNER] 100 agree. Looks like we're all free at nine. You wanna try to talk here at nine? 00:04:58 - [CHDE] Yeah. That works for me. And then the second part of the question is, you know, the board's gonna have a fit if I fire him without a backup plan. 00:05:06 - [SCOTT_WARNER] Yeah. 00:05:08 - [CHDE] And, obviously, the backup plan can't be like me or or Tim onsite, you know 00:05:12 - [SCOTT_WARNER] Sure. 00:05:12 - [CHDE] Full time. So I had a long conversation with Brent Shively Saturday morning. He is legitimately interested. You know, we had a a kind of a come to Jesus conversation where I he's and he admitted. He's like, look. I'm lost. I don't I don't know what to do. I'm working part time at Lowe's. He's like, I know I don't wanna be in marketing. And the more I thought about it, I'm like, Brian, you're you're perfect for this. You know, you're a hard worker. You have attention to detail. You're structured. You're methodical. I said, honestly, I think you'd be a great leader. You're great with people. And I said, you like you've told me you like the fact that you're not sitting in a chair all day. Said, this is a great job for you. I'm like, and not only that, I said, we have ambitions to grow into three d printing services, and inlay services, and all these other kind of more build type activities, you know, label card printing services. Like you're the right guy that actually could figure that out. And so but it may just start as basic warehousing. I'm like, but very quickly with you in that seat, I said that we could easily expand into these other things that we probably couldn't give to just a generic warehouse person. 100. And so he's he's legitimately interested. I told him I'm gonna be back in town Wednesday and Thursday. I'd like he wants to meet. And I just wanted to make sure before I promise him anything. Like, is that gonna be okay if I were to make him an offer and he accepted? Is is that appropriate and allowed? 00:06:32 - [SCOTT_WARNER] Yeah. It's allowed. I mean, I tried to hire him back right away for my own. So I am a little I am a little jealous. I tried. He said no. So he likes you better, but okay. No. I'm kidding. Well, he knows my whole team. Right? And and That was just me, TTS, man. It's all good. 00:06:47 - [CHDE] You know, I I really told him. I said, look, man. You're one of the top three or four people I've ever had the pleasure to work with that I would say I trust you completely. I know you're a hard worker, would get it done. And I said, there's no shame with this. Like, you're you're at a point in your life where switching careers, that's that you might love this. You know? You really might love this. It's tangible. You see the results. I go, there's a lot of parallels to construction, in my opinion. 00:07:13 - [SCOTT_WARNER] Yep. No. I think I think he'd be great at it. And I I I told you the other day, dude, he's one of my three best friends here. So if you can bring him back, I'll be happy. So 00:07:23 - [CHDE] I already know what Matt Howard is gonna be rolling his eyes because he's like he he already thinks I just go to the Festool stable and 00:07:31 - [CHDE] Well 00:07:31 - [CHDE] love you guys firing fantastic people. I mean 00:07:34 - [SCOTT_WARNER] Yeah. I mean, I see that, but also he know he knows that I went after Brent. And and he knows the why, and he knows why I he knows that I let him go on purpose, meaning what I okay. So instead of saving him and just putting him in a new job, I wanted him to have that severance ability or the the option to take severance. So he's aware of all that. So he knows that he was a solid person. So I I actually in this case, I I would be a little surprised if he gives you shit, but you never know. 00:08:02 - [CHDE] Well, and the reality is I tried to do it the let's call it the traditional way where you post a job and you interview people. I hired two guys. Neither have worked out so far. I'm I'm sick of this, Scott. I don't have time for going back out there and and hoping for the best. You know? It it's really hard in an interview to know somebody a hard worker. You know? 00:08:20 - [SCOTT_WARNER] I mean, I would I would have guessed this guy was all day long. So yeah. I get it. 00:08:24 - [CHDE] The thing is, you know, he even passed the mini test. Mini guy he had good vibes with mini, and I, you know, I think that's worth something. Right? He had good vibes with me and the team. He passed it in work out. 00:08:34 - [SCOTT_WARNER] He he yeah. Steve does too. I mean 00:08:37 - [CHDE] He did. Steve and John. And so it's like, you know, how do you know? And then when you get a guy that's lazy, it's like, sorry. I can't have that. Yeah. I just and I and Caleb starts the day, our other new guy. It's like, I I'm afraid if you see your boss being lazy and not doing crap all day, like, that that's that gets old real quick. 00:08:54 - [SCOTT_WARNER] 100. I agree with you. So okay, man. Well, I think that's a great plan. Do you want to have do you wanna well, let's talk with Lisa here at nine, see what she says, see what kind of ramp we've got facing us, and then I would say, I would go ahead and chat with Brent. Kind of the same thing. I'd like to I don't need to interview him, but I'd probably like to talk to him once just because he'll technically be on our team, and I just wanna make sure that it all gels pretty well. 00:09:23 - [CHDE] Well, I'll tell you what. I'm gonna propose to him because he just texted me back this morning that maybe we get together Wednesday at some point. 00:09:32 - [SCOTT_WARNER] Take him to lunch or bring him here or whatever you wanna do. But yeah. 00:09:35 - [CHDE] That's that's kinda what I'm thinking. So I told him, I said, hey, man. If you wanna come in at, like, you know, 0334, you can you can even go through the process of picking and packing an order with us and kind of get a better feel for, like, what is involved. So I'll let you know. And and if you're gonna be around, you can join us. 00:09:52 - [SCOTT_WARNER] Yep. I'll be around Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday this week. So, I mean, I'm working every day, but I'll be onsite those three days. 00:09:59 - [CHDE] Cool, man. 00:10:00 - [SCOTT_WARNER] Probably, I could be here if you needed me to. I don't have anything going on. I just had planned to be remote. So 00:10:05 - [CHDE] No. I don't think that's necessary. So I'll try to line something out for Wednesday with him. 00:10:10 - [SCOTT_WARNER] Sounds great, bro. 00:10:11 - [CHDE] Alright, man. Thanks, Scott. 00:10:13 - [SCOTT_WARNER] Take care, We'll see you. Talk to 00:10:14 - [CHDE] you at nine. Yep. Bye.
